Hawaiian BMW M6 owner customizes car with koa wood interior finish

BMW Individual, a customization program that allows BMW customers to customize their own Beamer, recently welcomed a customer with a never-before-done idea that he wanted to do on a BMW M6 – using koa wood in the car’s interior finish. For those who don’t know what koa wood is, it’s a pretty special – and rare - tree found in Hawaii that can only be harvested when a tree dies by itself or is uprooted by a storm. Hawaiian native Mark Carson figured that since the wood has been used in a number of other things – jewelry boxes and musical instruments – why not use it in the interior of a car. So Carson sought out BMW with his idea and through the car brand’s BMW Individual program, he was able to get the go-signal from BMW that his idea of using koa wood in the interior of a BMW M6 was completely possible. Months after he floated his idea around, Carson went all the way to BMW’s Munich headquarters to fetch his new ride: an Ontario Gold-finished BMW M6 with a koa wood interior finish. Needless to say, the car looks amazing. Nice digs there, Mr. Carson!

BMW 135iS will be the powerful 1-Series

A source from BMW said that the sports version of the 135i will bear the name 135is, not M1. The model is expected to begin this autumn.

As you know, the Motorsport division of BMW is working on a sports version of the 1-Series coupe. It will be turbocharged and is based on the 135i. Although rumors first announced that the new model will be called M1, it seems that Bavarians from BMW will designate it 135is, in a similar manner with the new BMW 335is launched in the United States of America and the Z4 sDrive35is.

American journalists from Insideline heard this information from a source within the BMW brand, located right in their booth at the Geneva Motor Show. The new BMW 135is is expected to begin thisautumn equipped with a more powerful version of the N54B30 engine and more aggressive suspension settings. Spy photos have already caught a number of test models with modified wings to accommodate wheels of 18″, necessary for extra stability and to provide additional power easily on the road of the modified version of the N54 engine.
