BMW 6-series Gran Coupe

Joining the four-door coupe trend pioneered by the Mercedes-Benz CLS 550, BMW adds rear doors to its 6-series, calling it a Gran Coupe.
At first glance, the 6-series Gran Coupe seems an odd overlap with the 7-series. BMW says the Gran Coupe fills a niche, being a car for buyers who want the sporty look of the 6-series, but also want a usable rear seat.

BMW X6 M50d teased?


BMW has released a new teaser video which appears to show an upcoming X6 M.
No details were released, but speculation suggests the model is the X6 M50d. If this is the case, we can expect the crossover to feature a tri-turbo 3.0-liter diesel engine with 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.
Regardless of what it is, the strategic blurring suggests the model will receive new LED head- and taillights.

German automaker BMW Alpina has unveiled the 2012 B6 Bi-Turbo Coupe.
The B6 Bi-Turbo Coupe features the aluminum twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, equipped with MAHLE pistons and a high-performance cooling system, which now develops an output of 540 PS (397 kW / 533 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. That's 33 more horsepower than on the recently announced B6 Bi-Turbo Cabriolet.

German tuner/automaker creates a B3 GT3 with 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque
Alpina has introduced the BMW Alpina B3 GT3.
Using the same twin-turbo 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder unit from the Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo, the B3 GT3 gets a modified exhaust system and a new rear silencer that boosts output by 8 PS (6 kW / 8 hp) over the standard engine with maximum power now rated at 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. The B3 GT3 also features a titanium rear silencer with double 115 mm tailpipes from Akrapovic.

BMW hasn't had the best of luck with their hybrid lineup, so the company is hoping for better success with the new ActiveHybrid 5.
Recently unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, the car features a lithium-ion battery, a 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and a 56 PS (40 kW / 55 hp) electric motor. This gives the AH5 a combined maximum output of 340 PS (250 kW / 335 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

Another BMW M6 Coupe prototype has crashed while testing on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife after a previous incident last August.
The crash, which took place last week, appears to have caused some pretty severe damage to the front and rear ends of the car, as we can see in the spy photos here.

While we here at Leftlane may not normally cover news pertaining to tech-based companies or their personnel, we unanimously concluded that a man of Steve Jobs’ stature and with his level of contributions deserved nothing less than a tribute for all he has given us.
Apple announced this evening that Jobs, 56, the man that arguably had more influence on technology in today’s cars than any other single man in recent times, passed peacefully after a seven-year battle with cancer.

BMW has made good on their plans for developing an urban vehicle for the metropolitan areas. They’ve unveiled the first sketches and official details on the future Megacity Vehicle due to come to the market in 2013. According to BMW, it will be the world’s first volume-produced vehicle with a passenger cell made from carbon. The Megacity Vehicle will be built on a new LifeDrive architecture that will help reduce the car’s weight by 250 to 300 kilos.
