BMW BREAKS GROUND ON CARBON FIBER PLANT

BMW and SGL Group have broken ground on a factory in Washington state that will eventually produce carbon fiber panels for the automaker’s electric vehicles, including its upcoming, highly-vaunted Megacity EV.
BMW teamed up with SGL to create a new joint venture, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers, to build the factory near Moses Lake, Washington. The plant’s location in Washington takes advantage of the region’s aerospace materials expertise, although vehicle assembly will take place in Wackersdorf, Germany.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held yesterday. Attendees included Washington governor Chris Gregoire.
The two companies invested $100 million into the plant, which will create 80 long term positions at the plant.
