BMW has launched a new entry-level variant of the X3 that in Germany costs from 36,200 euros. It’s the X3 sDrive18d that comes with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter diesel engine with BMW’s TwinPowerTurbo technology that pumps out 143 hp (105 kW / 145 PS) and a peak torque of 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) available between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm.
The BMW X3 sDrive18d needs 9.9 seconds to do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint when fitted with the manual gearbox, while the automatic transmission will do it in 10.3 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 121 mph (195 km/h) for the manual and 118 mph (190 km/h) for the automatic. It is the first variant of the BMW X3 which, in traditional BMW style, uses rear-wheel drive.
This economical X3 has a fuel consumption of 5.1 liters / 100 km (55.4 mpg imp) while CO2 emissions stand at 135 g/km. When equipped with the 8-speed automatic gearbox, the X3 sDrive18d averages 5.4 liters / 100 km (52.3 mpg imp) and has CO2 emissions of 142 g/km. To achieve these figures, the X3 is fitted as standard with Brake Energy Recuperation, Electric Power Steering, Optimum Shift Indicator, Auto Start-Stop and the ECO PRO mode.
