BMW is working hard on a more practical version of the 3-Series as these images show the GT variant while undergoing some testing. As we have already seen on the 5-Series GT, its smaller counterpart will adopt a similar raised seating position and ride height, along with a two-tier rear hatch design.
Under the hood it is expected to get 4- and 6-cylinder engines, and it will be offered in RWD and xDriveAWD flavors.
As a reminder, two years ago BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer mentioned that the reason why the 3-Series needs a more practical variant is because it’s “considered a volume builder with which we can earn good money.” However, judging by the poor sales numbers of the 5-Series GT, we can only assume that the smaller 3-Series GT won’t be a blockbuster hit, mostly because of its design.
The BMW 3-Series GT will be launched next year.
