BMW has announced it is preparing a track-only variant of the all-new 2014 M235i designed for international racing events such as the grueling Nürburgring 24 Hours and the VLN Endurance Championship.
Appropriately called M235i Racing, the coupe is fitted with a wide array of M Performance-designed parts including a front splitter, a discreet trunk-mounted spoiler, flared fenders that accommodate wide rims, carbon fiber door mirrors and side skirts.
Interior pictures are not available but BMW says the cockpit features a FIA-certified full roll cage and two sport seats with four-point harnesses. A digital instrument cluster and a stripped dashboard are likely part of the package.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six that sends 333 horsepower to the rear wheels. Whether the car is fitted with a manual or an automatic transmission is not known, but it comes with a mechanical limited-slip differential and a bundle of track-tuned driving aids such as ABS, DSC and electronic traction control.
Upgraded brakes and a stiffened suspension help keep the car on four wheels while ensuring a lively and responsive handling.
The M235i Racing will retail for €59,500 (roughly $80,500) before taxes are factored in when it goes on sale in its home country of Germany. At the time of writing, BMW has not indicated if the car will be offered in the United States.
