All-wheel drive expected to be optional
A prototype of the second generation BMW X1 was spied testing in harsh winter conditions.
Seeing a front-wheel drive BMW testing on icy winter roads is a rare sight but there's more to come as the new UKL platform will eventually underpin no less than 20 models from BMW and MINI. Seen here is the second generation of the X1 which according to our sources will be slightly longer and lower than the current model.
In addition, the car's design will go through significant changes and our spies have told us it will look a lot more attractive. One of the engine offerings will be the new 1.5-liter TwinPower in various stages of output ranging from 122 HP (90 kW) to 224 HP (165 kW). Front-wheel drive will be standard but for money clients will be able to optionally configure the X1 with an all-wheel drive setup.
The new BMW X1 will probably be unveiled towards the end of the year before going on sale in early 2015. PHOTOS
