Could have mild hybrid setup
A new report states there are some chances of seeing an M
Performance version of the all-new BMW
7-Series.
On several occasions, BMW officials have denied the possibility
of coming out with a fully-fledged M7, but at least now it seems we will be
getting the next best thing, an M Performance model. Car & Driver says this
spicier version of the 7-Series (G11) will likely utilize a mild hybrid setup
which means the conventional combustion engine will be supplemented during
accelerations by an electric motor. This will obviously improve performances
without adding too much weight compared to a regular hybrid setup.
In addition, a replacement for the current
Alpina B7 is in the works and will allegedly get an uprated version of the
twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter engine set to deliver approximately 600 bhp (447 kW) which
would make it 60 bhp (45 kW) more powerful than now.
The report goes on to specify BMW will expand the 7-Series
G11/G12 lineup by adding a new 760i model with the familiar twin-turbo V12
along with some punchy diesels delivering a lot more than 300 bhp (224 kW)
although a V8 diesel is not being planned.
