The BMW 135i comes with the same twin turbocharged 300 HP inline six cylinder engine as the longer and heavier 335, and much like the long gone Toyota Supra offers an outstanding base from which to extract regal amounts of power. The Chicago based tuner WSTO has a perfect example of what can be done with the smallest of BMW’s range currently offered here in the U.S. with their 135i Project 1 v1.2. Their update is nothing more then a subtle tune on a 135 that is based around an all new Bastuck quad tipped exhaust system surrounded by a carbon fiber diffuser. [Read more...]

Mini and Mitsubishi launch electric car trials in UK
Two of the world's largest car firms kicked off trials of their flagship electric vehicles this weekend as part of a nationwide pilot scheme backed by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

BMW Raises Prices 0.4%, Ups Destination and Handling By $50 In 2010
BMW has announced a 0.4% base price increase through most of its model range and a $50 addition to the destination charge. The changes go into effect January 1, 2010.
The change means that the price of a 128i before destination will increase by $1160, to $30,160. A base M3 sedan (like the one in our long-term garage) will cost $57,044 before destination, increasing $2194. The destination and handling charge will total $875.
The base price increase does not affect the ActiveHybtid X6, ActiveHybrid 7, and the 550i GranTurismo. However all three will be subject to the increased destination and handling charge.

Police-wrapped BMW M3 and Audi S3 spotted at the Nurburgring
Ok, for the record, they aren’t officially-sanctioned police cruisers making a routine check at the Nurburgring.
But they sure look believable, don’t they?
A pair of vehicles – a BMW M3 Coupe and an Audi S3, to be exact – was recently spotted at the ‘Ring sporting some pretty intimidating police wraps. From what we’ve heard, these two cars are owned by civilians that are part of a group called the ‘Ring-Police’.
We don’t know a good deal about these guys, but judging from the website stickered on the two cars’ rear bumpers, it looks the Ring-Police is a group of custom tuners that have been getting quite the following in Germany.

Piece Brosnan with the BMW Z8 in The World is Not Enough
You wouldn't know it if you weren't a serious film buff or marketing exec, but Propaganda GEM is responsible for a big share of the products you see placed in films. The entertainment marketing agency represents such brands as Audi, Lamborghini, Nokia, Panasonic, Bang & Olufsen and Casio, to name just a few. And it has a new client: the BMW Group.
Following such films as I, Robot and Iron Man, Propaganda has helped Audi significantly increase its profile in Hollywood. But the agency will be terminating its 13-year relationship with Audi (and, we'd expect, Lambo along with them) in order to take on BMW (together with Mini, Rolls-Royce and BMW motorcycles), spearheading a new marketing initiative for the Bavarian automaker.
Having temporarily stolen the James Bond spotlight from Aston Martin and Lotus in the mid-Nineties and launched The Hire film short series in 2001, BMW is no stranger to product placement, but the tie-in with Propaganda promises to take things to the next level. Apparently Munich's marketing budget has increased recently, thanks in large part to the termination of the company's Formula One program this year. BMW's sponsorship of the 2012 Olympic Games in London will only be the tip of the proverbial iceberg, as we can expect to see its products and those of its subsidiaries in more movies, television shows, music videos and video games in the near future
BMW's Diesel Hybrid Pulls 63 MPG, Outruns an M3
BMW's EfficientDynamics Vision concept car combines the best of all worlds with incredible fuel efficiency, breaktaking performance, and sensational looks.
It's powered by a three-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, lithium polymer batteries, and electric motors front and rear. The BMW Vision gets a U.S. unveiling next week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Dec. 4-13. The only bad news: The BMW Vision is more vision than production-ready concept car. What you'd most likely see on sale would be the key components such as the drivetrain and battery technology transplanted to a more mainstream body. [Read more...]
BMW Megacity to use Carbon Fiber on “large scale”
25 years of BMW
(Yes, the video is in German...)
This week, BMW Motorsport celebrates 25 years since the first BMW M5. In an event hosted at the Nurburgring racetrack, a group of selected journalists had the opportunity to explore the history of the M5, past, new and unreleased models.
To top off the event, an one-off model, M5 E60, was revealed for the first time. Dubbed “CSL” by many journalists, the “special” M5 is an upgraded version of the current M5, featuring more horsepower, larger engine capacity and other mechanical/electronic upgrades.
After BMW revealed the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, they are also preparing a production version X5 Hybrid for 2010. The first BMW model to benefit from the Active Hybrid system will be the 7-Series (set to be revealed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show) followed by the X6.
The first prototypes have already been caught testing in the California. The difference between the concept revealed in the 2008 and the prototypes caught by the spy photographers is its engine. If the concept combined a diesel engine with an electric motor, the prototype was powered by a gasoline engine. But even so, BMW will also produce a diesel-hybrid powertrain, we’ll just wait to wait longer to finally see it.
2010 BMW 1-Series
BMW is reshaping the way they make cars; the German automaker is planning on selling lots and lots of BMW 1 Series hatchbacks and has just revealed details about the all-new car for 2010. Starting this September the luxury carmaker will add four new models to their compact lineup: Starting off with the BMW 120i Coupé and the BMW 118d Coupé and then the Lifestyle and Sport Editions of the BMW 1 Series three and five-door body styles.
The new BMW 120i Coupe is powered by a 2.0 Liter four cylinder engine with BMW High Precision Injection (direct gasoline injection) with piezoelectric fuel injectors. The engine makes 170 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque, allowing the BMW 120i Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 149 MPH. The new diesel powered BMW 118d Coupe has the same engine displacement, except this one is developing 143 HP and 221 lb-ft of torque. It can go from a standstill to 60 mph in 9.0 seconds and reaching a top speed of 130 MPH.

BMW announces super-efficient 316d
BMW says that the greenest and most efficient 3-Series ever, the 316d, will go on sale later this year across Europe. Slotting below the 318d as the automaker’s entry-level model, the 316d will average 62.8 mpg in the European combined cycle (or about 52 mpg using United States customary measurement). Its 1,995cc (2.0-liter) four-cylinder diesel engine puts out 116 horsepower and 192 lb-ft. of torque but only emits 118 g/km of CO2. BMW says it will run to 62 mph in 10.9 seconds and tops out at 125 mph. It will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The BMW 316d will cost just £35 annually in taxes in the United Kingdom thanks to its C Vehicle Excise Duty rating. In the U.K., the 316d sedan will go on sale for £23,330 in September. It includes air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls and fog lamps as standard.

BMW Z4 by G-Power
The tuning house G-Power starts off by adding a set of their signature Silverstone wheels and height-adjustable G-POWER coil-overs in order to achieve the perfect stance. The GZ4-RS, 9 way adjustable shock absorbers also help to tune the dampening characteristics of the Z4 to work best with the sticky 295 series rubber incase there is a challenge regarding the vehicle’s handling abilities.
The German mechanics have managed to keep the grease out from under their fingernails. Thanks to factory plug and play connectors, they have been able to extract an additional 45 HP from the car’s twin turbo straight six 100% electronically, increasing the output of G-Power’s Z4 sDrive 35i to 345 HP, good enough to get the new BMW to sprint from 0 to 60 PH in just 4.7 seconds down from the standard version’s 5.1 second 0 to 60 MPH time. 2009 BMW 335d vs 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro
We've given high praise to the modern diesels we've tested (usually in Europe) over the last several years, as these engines are a world away from the diesels you might unfondly remember. Advancements in turbochargers, fuel injection and urea systems, along with the advent of ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel, mean today's turbodiesels are far cleaner and quieter than previous oil burners. Yet they still deliver the technology's promise of low fuel consumption and generous torque. [Read more...]

Seduction, BMW tells us, is the name of the game in the modern roadster market. Demographic evidence and customer confessions suggest that hardly anyone actually needs a wind-in-the-hair car with a small trunk and just two seats, so people have a lot of time to stroke their chins, consult the position of the planets and think about the purchase. We aren't talking corn harvesters or fire trucks here. Buyers have to fall in love. [Read more...]

Mercedes-Benz, BMW sales tumble
Sales of Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars tumbled in March as buyers around the world continued to avoid premium cars, data from the two German manufacturers showed.
However, there were some signs of recovery.
Mercedes-Benz sales were down 18 per cent in year-on-year terms to 98,500 cars, carmaker Daimler said in Stuttgart. But it noted that this had been a less steep drop than the 28 per cent it suffered in February or the slump of nearly one third in January.

2011 BMW Z2
BMW left a hole in its line up with the new Z4. The car is not too big, but it does put a wide enough gap between it and its predecessor, the Z3, to take it out of direct competition with like the small, lightweight Mazda MX-5. Not likely to leave a market wide open for other companies, BMW is rumored to be working on a Z2 model for featherweight fun.
The Z2 will be built on a modified Z4 platform, and unlike its bigger brother will only be offered with a choice of four cylinders engines with a maximum capacity of two liters. The base version will be a 1.8-liter with 150 hp, while a “M” version could be a turbocharged car with an output of around 300 hp. Like previously reported, a hybrid version is also in the works and a M version might also be a possibility.
The Z2 will be offered with BMW’s latest technologies, including active steering, dual clutch gearbox and active suspension. The price will be somewhere around the $30k area and the official debut will be made at the end of 2010, with sales to begin in 2011.
