BMW just took the wraps off its new 2012 M5 Nürburgring taxi during the M Festival at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
The BMW 'Ring taxi service is dubbed the "world's fastest taxi ride," allowing enthusiasts to take a seat next to a professional driver for a lap around the nearly 13-mile Nordschleife (North Course) track. Currently, those interested can either sit in the passenger seat of an E60 M5 or E92 M3 for the assuredly exhilarating ride around the loop.
Over the weekend, BMW announced that the newest-generation 2012 M5 (based on the F10 platform) is set to replace the current 'Ring taxis. The car sported blue livery and M Series decals at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and BMW says that it will be available for laps around "The Green Hell" in 2012.
The 2012 BMW M5 features a 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 that lays down 552 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed double-clutch transmission is mated to the V8 to help the sedan sprint to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and top out at 190 mph.
Enthusiasts can book taxi rides on the 'Ring through October for a price of $275, and that fee can be split among three people if they choose the M5. More information can be found here.
