2016 BMW 7-Series could lose the V12 engine - report

The end of the road?

BMW recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their V12 engine, but it looks like the next-generation 7-Series could lose the prestigious powertrain.
Speaking with Car Advice, BMW Australia product and pricing manager Christoph Priemel said “The planning for whether the V12 engine will be kept, that’s not decided yet." However, he believes there will always be a market for the engine because the 760Li is "definitely a special car."

While the engine used to be immensely popular with 7-Series buyers, it has recently fallen out of favor. This isn't terribly surprising as the 760Li costs $50,200 more than the 750Li in the United States.
In related news, Priemel said there will be a greater emphasis on differentiating the next-generation 7-Series from the rest of the BMW lineup. As he explained "In terms ofefficiency, dynamics, and safety features – this car will be absolutely superior both compared with the competition and also leading the pack when it comes to the BMW range overall.”
