On New Year's Eve we saw an undisguised prototype of the next generation BMW 7-Series in 730d specification so we already know how the regular model will look like. Now, we take a first look at a higher specification version equipped with an M Sport Package bringing a more aggressive body with larger air intakes, beefy side skirts, four exhaust pipes, larger wheels and a lowered sports suspension.
Our sources say the hotter 7-Series sounded more powerful than the regular prototypes and it could turn out to be the range-topping (rumored) M750i variant featuring a twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter engine borrowed from the M5 but tuned to deliver more than 600 HP (441 kW).
A lesser version was also spotted undergoing testing before a very probable official reveal set for September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The upcoming flagship model from Bavaria will ride on a newly developed platform featuring a lightweight construction thanks to a more extensive use of aluminum, high-strength steel and even carbon fiber. Reports are indicating a 200 kg (440 lbs) weight loss, but BMW hasn't specified an exact figure yet.
In terms of engines, expect new six-cylinder units, a V12 6.6-liter (from RR Ghost & Wraith) and a plug-in hybrid derivative mixing up a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor. The entry-level diesel could get a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with around 260 HP (191 kW) while a fully-fledged M7 is not planned which means the car depicted above will probably sit on top of the range.
