Starts at $41,425
BMW has officially unveiled the 2014 4-Series ahead of its scheduled debut at midnight.
Looking far more restrained than the 4-Series Coupe concept, the production model closely mirrors its 3-Series counterparts but is distinguished by revised bumpers and front fender vents (Air Breathers) that channel air out of the wheel arches to reduce drag.
Compared to the outgoing 3-Series Coupe, the 4-Series is one inch (26mm) longer, 1.7 inches (43mm) wider and 0.6 inches (16mm) lower. The model also rides on a 2 inch (50mm) longer wheelbase and weighs up to 99 lb (45 kg) less than its predecessor.
If the standard model isn't too your liking, BMW offers three different styling packages including:
- A Sport package with gloss black accents, a sport-tuned suspension and 18-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels
- A Luxury package with chrome accents, leather seats and high-gloss wood trim
- An M Sport package with an aerodynamic body kit, shadow line trim and 18-inch M-style wheels. There's also a sports suspension, high-performance brakes and M-spec interior.
In the United States, two different engines will be available. The entry-level 428i has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that develops 240 bhp (179 kW) and 255 lb-ft (345 Nm) of torque. This allows the coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
The 435i, on the other hand, has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 300 bhp (224 kW) and 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to run from 0-60 mph in five seconds (5.3 seconds with the 6-speed manual) and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
When the 4-Series Coupe arrives at U.S. dealerships later this summer the 428i will be priced from $41,425 while the 435i will retail for $46,925. Both models will also be available with an all-wheel drive system that increases the sticker price by $2,000.
