BMW M2 coming in 2016 with up to 400 PS - report

Should cost about 55,000 USD

BMW will allegedly introduce a fully-fledgedM2 in 2016 powered by an uprated inline-six TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter taken from the M235i.
More than a year ago, M division CEO Dr. Friedrich Nitschke confirmed a successor for the 1-Series M Coupe and now details are emerging about what will probably be an M2. While the special M-flavored 1-Series was a limited-run model, the M2 is expected to be a regular production model and will use the same six-cylinder engine from the current range-topping 2-Series, the M235i.
However, while the M235i offers 326 PS (240 kW), the hotter M2 will reportedly provide between 380 PS (279 kW) and 400 PS (294 kW) sent to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic with help from an electronic limited-slip differential offered as standard. The M235i needs 4.8 seconds to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run when fitted with the aforementioned automatic 'box while the M2 will do it in a little over 4 seconds.
In terms of styling, the 2016 BMW M2 should receive a body kit derived from the track-onlyM235i Racing with a hood bulge, more aggressive side skirts, fender flares and air diffuser, together with a trunk-mounted spoiler and the usual quad exhaust arrangement. Some carbon fiber bits and pieces are planned to lower the curb weight while the interior will receive the usual M goodies such as bucket seats, a sport steering wheel and carbon fiber trim.
The BMW M2 is expected to hit showrooms sometime in 2016.
