2016 BMW 1-series sedan rendered and speculated

BMW are getting ready to launch the new 1-series sedan, so to feed your senses, here is a nice rendering of what the model could look like.

We had our first glimpse of the a pre-production prototype last week when our spies were on hand to grab a few photographs and we can see a striking similarity in the image presented today. It naturally adopts the front end look of its hatchback sibling while incorporating a sloping C-pillar that flows seamlessly to the boot hood.

The new model will ride on the brand's UKL platform that is shared with the 2-series Active Tourer. It will come with a range of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines with power output ranging from 136 PS (100 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque to 231 PS (170 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel will also be available with 150 PS (110 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque.

Word on the street also states a range topping M variant will also join the range. This would likely result in a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine developing more than 300 HP (221 kW) joining the range as well.

Set to do battle with the Audi A3 sedan and Mercedes CLA, the BMW 1-series sedan will be launched in 2015 for the 2016 model year. Unfortunately for enthusiasts looking to get their hands on the model in the States, it is only planned for launch on the other side of the pond.
