BMW 2-Series Convertible revealed with 91 photos & videos
BMW has taken the wraps off the first ever 2-Series Convertible prior to a public debut set for next month at Paris Motor Show.
Looking exactly like you would expect after seeing the 2-Series Coupe, the open-top derivative effectively replaces the 1-Series Convertible and can be had in the hotter M235i guise. It comes with an inline-six 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine developing 326 PS (240 kW) and 450 Nm (322 lb-ft) which propels the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.2 seconds (5 seconds with the eight-speed automatic gearbox).
Depending on region, other versions will be available such as the 220i with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter rated at 184 PS (135 kW) & 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) along with a 228i packing the same engine but with 245 PS (180 kW) & 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) and can be had with optional xDrive all-wheel drive system. The 2-Series Convertible will also be available as a 220d model equipped with a turbodiesel inline-four 2.0-liter producing 190 PS (140 kW) & 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).
The multi-layer fabric soft top needs 20 seconds to open or close and can be had in three different colors: black, anthracite with silver effect and Brown with silver effect. It has received additional insulation which has decreased interior noise by 5 dB front & 7 dB rear while operating the soft top can be done at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h).
Compared to the 1-Series Convertible, its successor has a nine percent more spacious trunk with the roof closed and seven percent bigger with the top folded. In addition, the opening area's width has been enlarged by 1.4 inches and now there's enough room for two 46-inch golf bags or a couple of snowboards.
Scheduled to go on sale late February 2015, prices will kick off in United States at $38,850 for the 228i, followed by the 228i xDrive at $40,650 and the range-topping M235i at $48,650. On the UK market, the base 220i begins at £29,180 while the 220d kicks off at £29,965. Up next are the 228i at £31,550 and the M235i at £37,710.
