It appears as BMW has dropped plans of launching an M version of the upcoming i8 hybrid supercar.
Initially there were some rumors about ditching the hybrid powertrain in favor of a V8 or a V10 taken from the old M5/M6 to create an M8, but now it seems there won't be a fully conventional-powered variant of the i8.
Despite the bad news, let's not forget the i8 will be no slouch thanks to a 170 bhp (127 kW) electric motor powering the front axle and a 3-cylinder, 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 223 bhp (166 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) driving the rear wheels. It should be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 156 mph (251 km/h).
It is believed the BMW i8 will have a starting price of around 150,000 EUR (127,800 GBP / 200,700 USD). PHOTOS
