The i3 is scheduled to go on order in United Kingdom this July for a rumored starting price of approximately 35,000 GBP, with deliveries kicking off around October. CEO of BMW North America, Ludwig Willisch mentioned earlier this month the i3 will cost approximately 40,000 USD in the U.S.
It will be sold as an electric vehicle or with a range-extender in the form of a two-cylinder, 0.65-liter motorcycle engine which will be optionally available. The latter variant will come together with an auxiliary generator for charging the battery pack.
In 2014, the "i" lineup will grow with the more interesting i8 supercar that will have a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine and an electric motor which should be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds. The BMW i8 should cost somewhere in the region of 150,000 EUR.
