BMW/Toyota sports car could be based on the GT 86
There are some chances the upcoming co-developed BMW/Toyota mid-sized sports car will be based on the GT 86 platform.

Since chief engineer Tetsuya Tada was in charge of the GT 86 program and now he's leading the new project, there is a high probability BMW and Toyota are working on a GT 86-based model but with a modified platform which would allow more engine options, including supercharged, turbocharged and even hybrid setups. The latter would probably get an electric motor to power the front wheels, while the conventional engine will take care of the rear axle for an all-wheel drive setup.
Expect a concept version to debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show (November 22 – December 1). It is believed there will be distinct versions of the car which will have more design differences in comparison to the Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ trio.
